last day at the lake

Phoebe says, "bye bye sand, bye bye water."

Phoebe has loved our time at the swimming beach. She could play here all day if we didn't insist on a nap every afternoon. I love that our baby loves the water and the sand I look forward to many more days in the sand and water with this child!

It's Raining, It's Pouring

Phoebe and Ira found the TV we put away in the closet to entertain themselves while we waited for the rain to clear up. Ira wasn't too thrilled to have P on her lap; the next photo on the roll is a of Ira pushing P to the side. Phoebe is really loving the time with her cousins!

toddler entertainment

The other evening while I was preparing dinner, this is what I did to keep P entertained. It was so perfect, I am surprised we hadn't thought of it earlier. P LOVES the water- and we can't make it to the pool every day, so this became her little water space as I chopped tomatoes for salsa.

Phoebe *hearts* babies

Lucky for Phoebe, Logan's parents were happy for Logan to have a friend to entertain him. Some parents might be a little concerned with how close Phoebe gets to their new little bundle of joy! :)

Baked Kale Chips

Yup, tried these tonight! They were delicious.

Local Politics

With the DC Mayoral election coming up I have been thinking about who to vote for; most of the time I don't pay any attention to what Mayor Fenty is doing so have no idea where my loyalties lie. The papers report he has lost a lot of support over the last 4 years for a number of different reasons. DC Government has a history of corruption which makes it difficult for any mayor to get much done in this city. And in the very recent past the mayoral position has been mostly a figure head in dc, with no real chance of doing anything. So, to see the way that Fenty has stayed the course on his Education reform is impressive.(and probably the most important thing to our family right now.) After reading this article in the Washington Post one can assume that the Chancellor position held by Michelle Rhee will only be maintained and supported by Fenty. This made me sit up and take notice of the election ahead. Rhee has raised the bar in the public education realm, and I don't think it would be an easy thing for her to just leave. So, I have started thinking that a vote for Fenty is really a vote for Rhee, and for me that matters. Any other local readers out there with thoughts about this?

zero - zero

Who will win this football match? It will be a first time win for either team, it is hard to know who to root for. Maybe the nicest team? Well, they both play a bit dirty it seems. Maybe the most talented team? That isn't even clear, it hasn't been great soccer. But it is a match between the two teams that have proven themselves through the whole tournament. And how amazing is that? Fairly amazing. Though, I should apologize to South Africa and FIFA now, this is the first game I have watch of the whole World Cup, sorry. But thanks for letting me join you on the last game! It is a lot of fun. Can't wait for the final score.

Play - DOH!

Playdoh was made today after finding this great recipe! It kept P entertained for about 1 minute and me for about 20 minutes while she ran around the house. I am fairly certain I enjoyed it much more than her, though I hope she will come around. Sometimes my ideas for entertainment aren't quite on par with hers. Someday!

sooo tasty

Tonight we made blueberry sorbet...OH. MY. GOODNESS. That was some serious GOODNESS! Homemade blueberry sorbet kicks homemade vanilla ice cream to the curb. Though, the ice cream will come in handy when we have blueberry cobbler this weekend! p.s. local readers...blueberries at Giant are 4 pints for $5.

so. so. so. so. tasty!

you scream, we all scream for Ice Cream.

We just had a delicious dessert...homemade ice cream with chocolate chips on top.

Made by the mister with his father's day present; the ice cream maker attachment for the kitchen aide.
