Going to the Chapel...

Well, going to a dress fitting anyway. Phoebe got her first glimpse of *the bride* this week, and she was in awe.

It will be many, many years before this little lady gets married, but it was fun to dream about it a little bit when I entered the bridal shop with my little girl. And to remember that not too long ago my mother and I were in this same bridal shop getting my dress fitted.

Just one more week for this *bride* (and groom) before they become husband and wife. We can't wait!

a warm breeze blew in

Last weekend we hosted one of my dear friends. She was a fantastic guest; feeding herself when she arrived around 9:00 pm as I rushed off to get P to sleep, sleeping soundly in a room that is possibly the home of the mouse (which I think we finally got rid of), moving from room to room as the Saturday cleaning happened around us...during all of this she smiled and seemed delighted to be here. And Phoebe was equally delighted to meet Miss A.

I love when the history of our friendship encourages sharing of future hopes and dreams while stories and reminiscing of the past intertwine. Miss A and I shared a few cups of coffee and tea, a lunch at Bread and Chocolate, a stroll through Eastern Market, and a salmon dinner with the Mister, and all the while our hearts were shared; joy, love, redemption, excitement, and many laughs to follow.

I am blessed with dear friends, ones who know me better than I know myself. After Miss A left, I felt refreshed, and thankful for friendships; for being known, for loving and for being loved.

Thanks for visiting Miss A!

she's on a roll

Yesterday was the first roll over! It was from the front to the back...which clearly is the easier roll...but...still a roll.

We will keep up her practice time.

The People in the Picture

This weekend we had a fantastic time hanging out with our two favorite engaged people, their families, and some new and old friends. (Hurricane Hanna also stopped by).

Sunday morning, with Hanna gone and the party over, I was sitting in the sunroom enjoying a cup of coffee when the people in the picture above somehow caught my attention. No, this isn't a 207 verison of Where's Waldo...and no, there wasn't anything besides cream and sugar in my coffee. I think I was just feeling nastalgic.

I couldn't help but reflect on how many people were represented in just one part of one room. My dad drove out one long, hot weekend to help me lay the floor. Mike sanded the floor and loving applied multiple coats of poly. The Mrs. designed the day bed and picked out the fabric. The windows were ordered (and reordered multiple times) by Ed at the Depot. The flowers were for our engaged friends just starting out on a new phase in life. I brought the little wood table home in my bachelor days with the help of a cabbie who specialized in charging exhorbident fees for delivering the futons and furniture of chagrinned shoppers who hadn't thought ahead about getting their purchases home. The wool rug was hand-woven by family friends from the coats of free-range Nebraskan sheep (honestly). And we're tree-sitting the ficas while our former neighbor works on getting a new house (she came by to visit it tonight). Oh, and the motion detector standing guard in the background came along shortly after the nice alarm sales guy sold us peace of mind in a dangerous world a few years back.

It is good to have people in the house!

really?

Just as we were settling in to watch the speech last night I heard P squawking upstairs. She had been asleep for almost 2 hours and we thought she was down for the night. The mister wasn't able to console her so he brought her down to watch with us. Seems as if she wanted to get a glimpse of McCain; once she was downstairs and snuggled in on the couch with a good view of the screen she calmed down. I looked over at her and sure enough she was flirting with McCain; smiling, burying her face in her hands- you know the routine.

I looked at the mister, we shrugged our shoulders and decided she must be a Republican. Who knew?
