an outie

Dr. Sears suggests infants have two kinds of smiles. At first there is the inward smile; one that suggests all is well inside the baby's body. As they develop they could respond to the world around them with the second kind of smile which he calls the outward smile. Multiple times P has shown us her inward smile....sometimes following some shrieking, but it is a great smile nonetheless. We have been waiting for the outward smile and the other day, I swear, she smiled at me. Just one day over one month we locked eyes and I smiled at her and she smiled right back at me. There may have been something else happening inside her that I wasn't privy to but I am choosing to believe she smiled at me. I suppose I am starting to understand some of this motherhood thing...that smile got us both through the rest of the day. And I can't wait for the next one! ;)

and We're off

There were a number of outings this week, and I am ashamed to say as a new parent; we did not bring the camera with us to any of them. I am just happy we got out of the house with all the other essentials. (of course the diaper bag is loaded and ready to go because Gigi took care of that before she left, so I shouldn't really take credit!)

Monday: "An evening with Jim and Linda Slattery"
If we lived in Kansas, Phoebe would surely be wearing a Slattery for Senate onsie! I think Jim is her favorite politician to date. He didn't kiss her head, but he did put her to sleep, which for a baby is a good sign. The Mister and I had fun showing off our little bundle of joy, and it was so fun to see Jim full of life on the campaign trail.

Wednesday: Lunch with P Daddy at the Fed
P met two governors, the head of the motor pool, daddy's boss, and daddy's intern. (He really does introduce himself as the Mister's intern- so cute!) The Mister was a proud dad carrying P all around to show her off. Once again, P basically slept through the whole thing! Gotta love that white noise.

Thursday: A walk with Mom
P and I went on a little walk to check out our neighborhood- P caught some of the sites, but mostly she just slept in her sweet ride. On our way home I noticed a kid acting a little odd and then a larger group of kids behind him- something about the situation didn't seem quite right to me, so, in my hyper-aware state I decided to cross the street to distance us from them. Once we got across the street I was greeted by a passer by who stopped to take a look at Phoebe. He seemed enamored with her, and I was surprised at his interest but at ease by his gentleness. He asked what her name was and I offered up P's and my name as well. He introduced himself as Jim H.(I forgot his last name but it started with an H) I asked him if he lived around here, and he told me that he had a storage unit at the building we were standing in front of, he then followed that up with 'I am homeless, and trying to make my way home.' I didn't know what to say, but P and I kept walking along side Jim till he got to his door. P and I made it to our home shortly after that and Jim - who knows where he made it yesterday? I am glad that P and I went for a walk yesterday and that we ran into Jim. He had such a sweet spirit, I hope we run into him again sometime soon!

There is at least one more outing this week: the Post Office!...and maybe another walk...

P Daddy

P was very busy this week getting the Mister's Father's day present ready! It was their first Father's day together, so she wanted it to be special!

Also for Father's Day the Mister gave P her first bottle...she took it like a champ and doesn't seem to be confused either way...perfect!

Happy Father's Day to all!

First time out

Phoebe and I ventured out today. We wanted to make sure that we could actually get out of the house on our own before we lost our safety net (GiGi). So we loaded up the car with everything we might need for the next hour or two and drove down to the Mall. We found a spot to park right next to the Mister's office so he joined us for a stroll, and got some lunch at the corner hot dog stand.

And we started her off visiting one of the smartest men in DC. He gave Phoebe a little smirk.

None of this could have been accomplished without Gigi!

We were happy to get home since it was so warm out! We will try to plan our next outing on a cooler day. Dang summer heat in the swamp!

Another Pass

After the delivery from the stork, it seemed that just about anything else that might be delivered would pale in comparison. But another 'pass' letter today from the architect test people didn't seem as pale as one might have thought. The Mrs. apparently knows more than enough about mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

So just to summarize:
Pass
Pass
Pass
Pass
Pass
Pass
Pass
Pass

Now just one more to go! Go P Mama!
