There are a lot of things we like about our church, this weekend manifested two new things that I appreciate about our church community. Friday evening and Saturday we spent our time with about 400 other people from the city at a symposium on "Loving your Neighbor" hosted by our church along with two others. It was the beginning of a conversation that we hope finds people yearning to "do justice and to love mercy"in this city. We got to meet one of the Mister's heroes- Bob Lupton, and the Mister even got to
participate a little bit more than the rest of us. I found myself really thankful to be in a place where teaching was happening and conversations were initiated regarding things that sit well with me. I didn't feel like I had to argue the point that loving your neighbor is a good, life giving thing, or that being around people that are different than you is an important eye opening thing because this is what we were talking about and encouraging one another in. It was nourishing for me, and the Mister.
Then this morning we woke up and joined another 30 people from our church to talk about the covenant of marriage. Together in the room was about 80 years of marriage experience and probably 8 couples who are just about to get married- all of us engaging in questions of loving our spouse. Once again I felt nourished by our community. It was a good weekend- full of encouragement. Tonight I feel thankful- and a bit overwhelmed with all the goodness left to process.
